I used to wear shapewear all the time. Every night out required me forcing myself into super sucky-in contraptions in a desperate bid to look a few inches smaller but since making peace with my bigger body I’ve not worn any such thing. I was, however, really interested to see if I could find some comfortable, wearable items for the summer occasion season because like it or not, I know people are seeking these options.
The Spanx are a high waisted brief made from a softer yarn than I’d previously
experienced and I must admit they were blinkin’ comfortable & easy to put on, none of the wriggling and feeling like a balloon about to pop as I slid them on. The band came right up to my bra and unlike others I’ve tried didn’t roll or dig in whatsoever. They felt super smooth and I was able to breathe & eat… definite bonus points!
Now onto “suck-in” power, it’s not something that is on my list of priorities as I’m happy to let my belly show and would be looking more at maybe just smoothing the line under a fitted dress however I imagine most people are buying for that super sucked in look that is now synonymous with this brand. I have to say I didn’t think this particular style delivered much in the way of this but I couldn’t decide if this was possibly just because they felt so comfortable my brain couldn’t equate that with the super tight squeezed in feeling of other styles I had worn?
The images show me in Spanx (first pic – left, second pic – right) and without Spanx (first pic – right, second pic – left) and I can see there is a difference side on, my tummy looks flatter for sure and I’d say I have more waist definition front on so I must just be thinking they can’t be doing any pull in power purely because they don’t feel like they are!
I’ll discuss the strapless bra now because, honestly, I am a 36J & I had pretty much concluded that strapless bras were not for me. I had worn the Luxe before but this was pre-bra fitting days and I had a 36GG and whilst I rated it then I still wasn’t sure if it would hold up my 36J’s. I ordered a 38HH as I had read bands ran slightly small but I think my usual size would have actually been better. It felt comfortable on, my boobs felt very lifted and supported even without straps! The gore did not tack on me but as you’ll know if you’ve read my blog before, my boobs and moulded bras are not a happy match and despite this I still felt happy with the fit and possibly in a 36 it would sit slightly better too.
You can see by the side view just how much lift I have in this bra and it stayed up too. None of the usual tugging up and slipping down you get with some strapless bras, I will note though when buying a strapless/multiway style you must make sure you get the right size because if you wear band that’s too large and you take the straps away there is literally going to be no support there.
Overall I’m really happy with both of these products and I’ll definitely be wearing them over summer and especially on holiday because a new world of strappy tops is now open to me. Have you tried the Luxe? will you try it now? What are your shapewear recommendations? Let me know.
